Company
History
Shoffeitt
Gourmet Seasonings was founded in 1966 in Healdsburg, California
as a part of Shoffeitt Products Corporation by William and June
Shoffeitt. The Corporation was an outlet for the inventive genius
in Bill to try many creations such as a biodegradable spray on
oven cleaner (before Easy Off), a line of all natural cosmetics
and many other products. The star of the show, however, was the
first ever Lemon Pepper created that same year.
Recognizing
the potential of the gourmet seasoning arena, Bill began creating
additional blends to enhance all types of foods, including Flavor
Crystals, Lemon Teriyaki and Deluxe Special. In the early seventies
you could find Shoffeitt Seasonings in nearly all the major department
stores including Macy’s, Sears and JC Penney.
Failing
health and a changing market required the family corporation to downsize
as everyone had to learn new roles within the business. June, the
matriarch of the family, continued to create new blends to address
that changing market place and celebrate the company’s location
in the heart of the wine country. She worked well into her eighties
creating the Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and other wine blends
that actually have wine in the formula!
The
passing of June Shoffeitt on Christmas day in 2003 became a defining
moment for the family as they decided to continue the business as
their parent’s legacy. The three daughters, Sandy, Bobbie and
Janet, struck out to rebuild the company. (Oldest brother Dennis
has been a successful entrepreneur in his own right and is not involved
with the seasoning company.) They have temporarily cut back the number
of blends they offer, and are focusing on the newer blends such as
Ka-Jun Fire and Unique as well as the most popular flavors from the
original line.
They
are also emphasizing bulk sales, wholesale and private labeling as
they continue to manufacture seasonings for a number of restaurants
and bulk sellers.
These
products are not only available over the internet, but also in their
brand new marketplace in Healdsburg called “Shoffeitt’s
Off the Square Collective”where over 30 vendors offer everything
from vintage clothing and antiques to local art and gifts, and of
course Shoffeitt Gourmet Seasonings.

wine country’s most unique marketplace!
